88.5 WFDD launched its 12th Annual BackPack Campaign on GivingTuesday, and will go live on air for three days, beginning Tuesday, Dec. 8, to count down to its 1,300 backpack goal. This special fund drive not only supports access to fact-based journalism and trustworthy reporting for everyone in the station’s 32-county coverage area, it also helps feed children in the region who are facing food insecurity, thanks to a partnership with Kaplan Early Learning Company and Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina. For every gift to 88.5 WFDD, no matter the amount, Kaplan Early Learning Company will fill a backpack of food for a child at risk of hunger, through Second Harvest’s BackPack Program.

In October 2019, Wake Forest University Facilities staff participated in “From the Ground Up,” an original dance performance held on Hearn Plaza. Directed by Allison Orr (’93) of Forklift Danceworks in Austin, the production elevated the dedicated people whose skillful work often goes unseen. To commemorate the anniversary of this groundbreaking event, IdeasCityWS will host a “Beta Bonfire” panel discussion on Thursday, Dec. 10 at 5 p.m., looking back at the production through the lens of workforce development.

Z. Smith Reynolds Library Special Collections & Archives will host a virtual launch party for Ed Wilson’s latest book, “Songs of Wake Forest,” on Friday, Dec. 11. The event will appear live on YouTube from 3:30 to 5 p.m. and feature readings from Wilson and reflections on the book’s creation.

Wake Forest University will hold this year’s annual Christmas Lovefeast ceremony virtually on Sunday, Dec. 6, beginning with a prelude at 5:45 p.m. with a service to follow. Wake Forest has been celebrating the Lovefeast since 1965. This year’s virtual, pre-recorded event means a larger audience can enjoy Lovefeast from the safety of their own homes. The video will be shared on the Lovefeast website on the day of the event. A crowdfunding page for the Chaplain’s Emergency Fund is replacing donation baskets typically available as people exit Wait Chapel.

In the Spring of 2020, the Wake Forest University Slavery, Race and Memory Project (SRMP) published a collection of essays, titled “To Stand With And For Humanity.” The SRMP will host a virtual, public conversation about the publication on Thursday, Nov. 19, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
