University statement of support for those affected by anti-Asian violence
As the University Chaplain and the Dean of Wait Chapel wrote yesterday, Wake Forest University continues “to sit in sorrow and solidarity with all those affected by the horrific mass shooting in Atlanta.” The recent violent attacks have affected members of our Wake Forest community in profound and different ways.
President Nathan O. Hatch affirmed his commitment to support those who have been affected by this hate. The incident brings many issues into focus, particularly the increasing anti-Asian sentiment across the country during the pandemic, as well as the devastating impact of gender violence on our society. For Wake Foresters who call Atlanta home, this tragic event resonates in a city that is not only central to the civil rights movement, but also increasingly representative of the tapestry that is our nation.
Campus partners are working to bring awareness and provide outreach to faculty, staff, and students in this time of pain, anger, and grief. University resources that can directly provide support and spaces of affirmation to members of our community include:

Timely Warning: Sexual Assault Reported
This announcement was emailed to students, faculty and staff on March 5 by Wake Forest Communications and External Relations:
In order to promote safety on the Wake Forest University campus, the University is issuing this notification concerning a possible threat to the community.
The Wake Forest Title IX Office is investigating a student’s report of being sexually assaulted by a student in South Residence Hall early in the morning on March 1, 2020. The student made the report to the Title IX Office on March 5.
If you have any information that might be helpful in this investigation, contact the University Police at (336) 758- 5911 or the Title IX Office at 336-758-7258 or titleixcoordinator@wfu.edu. If you wish to provide information anonymously, do so through “Silent Witness.”
Wake Forest is providing resources to assist the individuals involved in this incident, and will continue to take actions to maintain the safety and security of the campus community.
It is important for all of us to focus on the things that we can all do to keep ourselves and others safe.

In order to promote safety on the Wake Forest University campus, the University is issuing this Timely Warning Notification concerning a possible threat to the community.
The Winston-Salem Police Department and the Wake Forest University Police Department are investigating a student’s report of being assaulted on campus last night, possibly near the Subway on Hearn Plaza.
The incident is reported as occurring between 11:23 p.m. January 17 and 1:50 a.m. January 18.
The University Police Department is requesting information from anyone who might be able to provide more details about the alleged incident. The emergency number for University Police is 336-758-5911; non-emergency is 336-758-5591. A person may provide information anonymously by using the University Police Department’s Silent Witness form.

Timely Warning: Sexual Offense Reported
This timely warning was e-mailed to students, faculty and staff on Sept. 17 by Wake Forest Communications and External Relations:
In order to promote safety on the Wake Forest University campus, the University is issuing this Timely Warning Notification concerning a possible threat to the community.
The Wake Forest University Police Department received two anonymous reports on the night of Sept. 16 alleging sexual assault occurred late last Friday night or early Saturday morning at 1101 Polo Road, a private property immediately off campus. University Police officials do not know if the two anonymous reports are about one alleged incident or two separate alleged incidents.
One report was made through the Silent Witness website, the other report was made by an anonymous phone call. Neither report identified the victim, possible assailants or witnesses.
It is not known if anyone involved is associated with Wake Forest.
The University Police Department is requesting information from anyone who might be able to provide more details about the alleged incident or incidents. Dear Students, Faculty and Staff:
As Wake Forest begins the 2018-19 academic year, it is a good time to share information about University resources related to safety and security that are available to students, faculty and staff. Much of this information may be familiar to returning students, as well as faculty and staff who have been here a while. Students new to the University may have learned about some of it, already, but it is valuable information that is worth repeating.
Wake Alert
- Wake Alert is the University’s mass notification system for communicating about emergencies and less threatening but significant situations involving safety and security. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to become familiar with it. Visit the Wake Alert website, where messages would be posted in an emergency, and another website, Wake Ready, which offers considerable information about emergency preparedness, key University contacts in emergencies and more.
- For the first time, Wake Forest is using a new mass notification software that will enable Wake Alert messages to be delivered rapidly through several communication methods, simultaneously. In an emergency, a Wake Alert message can be sent using the Wake Alert website, a banner at the top of the University home page, text messaging, e-mail, voice mail, Twitter and Facebook. The University can use additional methods for announcing emergencies, including outdoor and indoor alert systems.
- As in the past, the University community will also see Wake Alert being used, occasionally, for a non-emergency crime alert, as well as announcing extraordinarily unstable weather or a campus closing due to snowy and icy conditions.
LiveSafe
- Download the LiveSafe mobile app. The app is free and makes it easy 24/7 to engage in a two-way conversation with the Wake Forest University Police Department. As the department’s web site announces, “With LiveSafe, you can use your cell phone as a personal security device that allows direct access to police, 911 emergency services, emergency location sharing, information sharing with quick tips, and a peer-to-peer SafeWalk tool. The app can be useful to students, faculty and staff.
University Shuttles
- Transportation and Parking Services offers a system of complimentary shuttles available to the University community. Throughout the night, the OnCall demand shuttle can be especially helpful. It is available daily during the academic year from 6 p.m.-7 a.m. Check this website for shuttle schedules and more details.
- The Transloc Rider app can be used to catch a ride and track University shuttles through GPS technology.
