The following is a guest post from Eric Maguire, vice president for enrollment: While working remotely, the Undergraduate Admissions staff joined in solidarity with our colleagues throughout campus to sustain a strong and vibrant Wake Forest community. Our staff quickly pivoted from our signature face-to-face work to creative virtual efforts. For over six months, our work has included yielding our first-year class, conducting webcam interviews, hosting live virtual sessions, planning fall virtual visits and college fairs, and evaluating Early Decision applications.

Wake Forest University and Sant’Anna Institute in Sorrento, Italy, have teamed up to present the second International Virtual Colloquium, titled “Re-thinking Marginalized Identities in Pandemics” on Friday, Oct. 9, at 11 a.m. Organized and moderated by Sant’Anna academic director Marco Marino and Wake Forest associate professor of Women’s, Gender & Sexuality Studies Wanda Balzano, the colloquium will examine the ways the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted equity and equality.

Wake Forest’s student-run art gallery, stArt gallery, has launched “stArtStream,” an online presentation of selected works of video art from the John P. Anderson Student Art Collection. These works are thematically centered around ideas of identity and how we interpret the world in which we live. Through this exhibition, stArt gallery is offering the opportunity to engage with student artwork outside the physical gallery space.

As a reminder, the University Police Department and the Office of Communications and External Relations will conduct tests of the Wake Forest emergency alerts systems on Tuesday, Oct. 6, and Wednesday, Oct. 7, between 9 a.m. and 9 a.m. The tests are being conducted to ensure that the University’s emergency notification systems are operating properly. If an actual emergency were to occur on the testing dates, the University would use numerous alert methods to inform the campus.

Aishah Casseus has been named Wake Forest University Title IX director, effective October 1. Casseus previously held similar positions at Winston-Salem State University and Florida State University. Casseus, a licensed attorney, earned her Juris Doctor degree from North Carolina Central University in Durham, with a concentration in Constitutional Law and Civil Rights. She earned her bachelor’s degree in social science, with a minor in sociology, from Troy University in Dothan, Alabama.

The University maintains a Crisis Management Team which may be activated by senior University officials for response to emergencies on campus. The Team follows the guideline of the University Crisis Plan and the accompanying Incident Command System for the Wake Forest University Crisis Management Plan. Team members and University Police have received U.S. Department of Homeland Security Incident Command training. The University Crisis Management Team conducts emergency response drills annually and includes County Emergency Management, Winston- Salem Police, Fire and EMS.
