Brittany P. Battle, assistant professor of sociology, has received the 2021 Feminist Activism Award from Sociologists for Women in Society (SWS). The award recognizes individuals who notably and consistently use sociology to improve conditions for women in society and honors outstanding feminist advocacy efforts. The SWS Feminist Activism Award is Battle’s second national award this semester; Battle also received the Division on Critical Criminology and Social Justice Praxis Award from the American Society of Criminology.

Wake Forest’s Healthy Exercise and Lifestyle ProgramS (HELPS) is now accepting applications for the spring semester 2021 “Healthy Weight for You” program. “Healthy Weight for You” is a free, six-month weight management program offered to full-time, permanent Wake Forest University employees. Weekly group sessions will be held virtually via Zoom on Mondays from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m, beginning Feb. 1, 2021.

Students, faculty and staff at Wake Forest will be informed of any weather-related campus closings and delays this winter by numerous means; along with several other measures, Wake Forest Communications and External Relations will send a voice message and a text message to all cell phones registered to receive Wake Alert emergency messages, post an announcement to Inside WFU and the Wake Ready website, and email students, faculty and staff.

We are saddened to announce that Sylvia T. Bell, a retired nurse/administrator in Wake Forest’s Student Health Service, passed away on Dec. 1 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. During her nursing career, Sylvia was recognized and honored numerous times for her contributions to student health. She served the University for 30 years from 1981 to 2011.

Wake Forest University Associate Provost for Global Affairs Kline Harrison, Director of Global Abroad Programs Jessica Francis and Assistant Dean of Global Study Away David Taylor were recently selected from a competitive applicant pool to participate in the inaugural Global Senior Leadership Symposium on Dec. 15 and 16. The forum is hosted by EF Education First, the Forum on Education Abroad and the Association of International Education Administrators, in partnership with EF’s educational partner, the Nobel Prize Museum. The Global Senior Leadership Symposium is a unique opportunity for higher education leaders to collaborate with a global network of peers, explore international strategies from various cultural perspectives and discuss the role of education abroad and global mobility within higher education.

Faculty and staff who anticipate needing to access campus at any time are required to complete the daily wellness screening through SneezSafe and comply with all University policies and protocols, including those that require use of face coverings and social distancing. Colleagues who do not anticipate needing access to campus during this intermittent break should still continue to monitor wellness using SneezSafe.
