Information Systems announces TechX 2021 and calls for proposals

For 2021, TechX will focus on how our campus community has creatively incorporated technology into the classroom, workplace and other collaborative spaces to deliver an enriched learning experience, foster relationships and engage constituents. IS will host a virtual three day event, March 23-25, featuring an interactive web experience for attendees to watch videos, read articles and participate in workshops highlighting this important work.


Hilliard achieves certification as supply management professional

Garland’s certification through the Institute for Supply Management represents his commitment to professional development in critical areas of strategic sourcing, sustainability, forecasting and risk/compliance.


WFDD to expand coverage of the impact of COVID-19 on the local Hispanic community

88.5 WFDD recently announced that it has been selected as a Report for America host newsroom, in partnership with Spanish language publication La Noticia. The Report for America grant helps to fund the placement of a bilingual reporter in the WFDD newsroom, and allows WFDD, in conjunction with La Noticia, to expand its coverage of the impact of COVID-19 on the Hispanic community.


Humanities Institute publication: “How We Know, What We Know: The Humanities Responds to Pandemic”

In November 2020, the Wake Forest University Humanities Institute released “How We Know, What We Know: Humanities Responds to Pandemic.” This collection of essays by Wake Forest faculty was commissioned by the Humanities Institute at the end of spring 2020; it includes historical, critical, interpretive and reflective essays from across the humanities, shedding light on the past, present and future of our emergency.


Juneteenth is now a University holiday

Beginning in calendar year 2021, Wake Forest University will recognize Juneteenth as a university holiday. Juneteenth honors and commemorates the freedom and emancipation of enslaved individuals and has been celebrated as a holiday by Black communities since the late 1880s. The observance of Juneteenth as a University holiday is a small and important recognition that reflects on all aspects of Wake Forest’s history, while honoring the past and present contributions of African American communities.

After 12 Years, WFDD’s BackPack Campaign remains a symbol of community support

88.5 WFDD has concluded its annual BackPack Campaign, reaching its goal to contribute to the filling of 1,300 backpacks of food for children at risk of hunger, thanks to listeners’ support. The backpacks were made possible through the support of Kaplan Early Learning Company and will be distributed through Second Harvest Food Bank’s BackPack Program; they will provide the equivalent of 5,200 meals for children in the Piedmont and High Country who are in need. WFDD has held an annual BackPack Campaign in December for the last 12 years. This special fundraiser provides support for the public radio station, while also filling backpacks of food for children in the Piedmont and High Country at risk of hunger, through Second Harvest Food Bank’s BackPack Program.


2021 OptumRx prescription drug changes

Wake Forest University Human Resources emailed the following message to faculty and staff who have elected to receive medical coverage through Wake Forest University for calendar year 2021; those enrolled in the medical plan for 2021 are automatically enrolled in the OptumRx prescription drug plan. As a reminder, we have included two important plan updates below that were communicated to you during the annual benefits enrollment period: the mail order program and a formulary change.
