Angelo Mathay, professor of the practice in the School of Professional Studies, will travel to Germany this summer to participate in the Social Cohesion Study Tour organized by the American Council on Germany.

The Social Cohesion Study Tour, June 14–20, is a highly selective transatlantic exchange program that brings together a cohort of U.S. and German professionals from government, academia and civil society for a series of in-depth site visits, policy discussions and institutional exchanges. The program examines how communities on both sides of the Atlantic address shared challenges related to workforce development, public service delivery, education and community resilience, while fostering dialogue and the exchange of best practices.

Mathay serves as an administrative judge with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and teaches public law in Wake Forest’s Master of Public Administration program. His selection reflects both his professional experience in administrative law and civil rights adjudication, as well as his broader engagement in public service and policy education. In his course, Mathay focuses on how legal frameworks shape public administration, emphasizing practical applications of administrative law in government decision-making and institutional accountability.

In addition to his teaching, Mathay serves on the North Carolina Human Relations Commission and the North Carolina Advisory Committee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights.

The American Council on Germany’s programs are designed to strengthen transatlantic relationships by engaging emerging leaders in dialogue, policy exchange and network-building across sectors.

Through this experience, Mathay will enhance the applied learning environment for Wake Forest students by integrating real-world perspectives on public administration, institutional design and community-focused governance into his teaching.
