Christa Colyer to deliver April 2 Annual Poteat Lecture

Known for her innovative teaching style and remarkable devotion to her students, Chemistry Professor Christa Colyer will present the 26th Annual Poteat Lecture. Colyer’s lecture will take place on Thursday, April 2, at 4 p.m. in ZSR Auditorium and is titled “Beyond Measure: Chemical Analysis in a Complex World.” Light refreshments will be served after the lecture. Colyer received the 2025 College Board of Visitors Faculty Leadership Award for her commitment to compassionate leadership in both her research and teaching. She began teaching chemistry at Wake Forest in 1997 and has served as a professor since 2010. She has written more than 75 peer-reviewed papers, with research interests in analytical chemistry, electrokinetic separations method development, aptamer discovery, carbon nanoparticles in analysis, and biomolecule and drug analysis.
A native of Canada, Colyer earned her Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) Postdoctoral Fellow from the University of Alberta in Canada, her Ph.D. from Queen’s University in Canada, a Master of Science from the University of Guelph, and a Bachelor of Science from Trent University in Peterborough, Canada.
Now in its 26th year, the Poteat Lecture Series honors Hubert McNeill Poteat, who taught at Wake Forest University from 1911 to 1956. Held each spring, the series features a faculty speaker and recognizes outstanding faculty achievements in research, scholarship, and creative work. The series is sponsored by the Office of the Dean of the College and the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences.
