Event Features on Inside WFU
Does Inside WFU share events information?
Generally, no. Inside WFU is not intended to function as an event promotion or calendar site.
Where should events be promoted instead?
The University’s events calendar is the primary place to share events with the Wake Forest community. The Inside WFU website and newsletter regularly point readers to the central place for discovering what events are happening across campus.
What types of events may be featured on Inside WFU?
In limited and intentional cases, Inside WFU may publish event features—editorial stories that provide context, insight, or perspective on select university events. These stories focus on impact and meaning, not logistics. They appear within a full story, not as a date-and-time announcement. Exceptions may be made for events designed solely for faculty and/or staff participation.
Event feature highlights:
- University-wide events led by the Office of the President
- Long-standing campus traditions or initiatives with broad faculty and staff involvement
- Timely programming that showcases the work, leadership, or collaboration of faculty and staff
Event feature guidelines:
Event features differ from calendar listings. They go beyond dates and times to provide context and meaning. Rather than serving as promotional listings, these stories offer insight into why an event matters, how it was developed, and what faculty and staff can expect to gain by attending.
Event features are written in formats that inform, engage, and help readers understand the event’s broader relevance to the university community.
- Traditional articles with quotes
- Ranked lists (e.g., Top 5 Reasons to Attend)
- Bulleted explainers (e.g., Things You Didn’t Know About…)
- A behind the scenes look
Before submitting an idea for an event feature, consider:
- Can the event be described beyond who, what, when, and where?
- Is there sufficient lead time to develop a meaningful story?
- Does the event have broad relevance for faculty and staff?
- Would a post-event feature better highlight faculty or staff impact?
If the answer to any of these questions is NO, submitting a Calendar Event is the best approach.
If the answer is YES, departments may submit an event feature request:
- Include “Event Feature Request” in the submission
- Allow ample time. Submit requests at least one month in advance.
- Be open to collaboration. Departments may be asked to provide a draft, interviews, or additional information
