A message from Vice President for Information Technology & CIO Mur Muchane Mur Muchane

In recent articles and social media activity, concerns have circulated around language in a version of Zoom’s terms of use, which seemed to indicate that the company will use some user content to train its artificial intelligence algorithms. Information Systems looked into the matter, confirming with the vendor that the “Zoom IQ” feature of concern is not enabled nor is it available in our own Wake Forest Zoom instance.

In addition to this specific news of note, action and reassurances have also surfaced from Zoom. The company’s CEO and founder, Eric Yuan, published a post on LinkedIn, stating that “we are commiting to all of our customers that we will not use any of their audio, video, chat, screen sharing, attachments and other communications like poll results, whiteboard and reactions to train our AI models or third-party AI models.” Zoom also revised its terms of service on August 7 and again on August 11, in an effort to further reassure its customers.
