The following message is shared on behalf of Michael Lamb, senior executive director of the Program for Leadership and Character.

Dear Wake Forest Colleagues,

One of the many reasons I am so proud to work with you all is our shared commitment to living out our motto: Pro Humanitate. Wake Forest folks show up for one another and extend care to the broader community. Among the most effective ways we can make a direct, local impact is through the United Way of Forsyth County giving campaign.

A gift to United Way is a pooled gift directly to the neighbors who call Winston-Salem and Forsyth County home. No single organization can tackle our region’s complex challenges alone; United Way brings our community together to create lasting solutions.

Here is why your support matters:

  • Broad Local Reach: United Way invests in 44 programs and initiatives across 25 local partner nonprofits.
  • Focused Priorities: Investments directly target economic mobility, student and youth success, neighborhood initiatives, and basic needs.
  • Supporting Working Families: 42% of North Carolina households fall into the ALICE threshold: working hard, yet earning too little to cover basic costs like housing, food, and childcare. United Way bridges this gap and supports local resources like NC 211, a free and confidential service for families connecting them to information on health and human services in their community.
  • Accountability and Trust: Community volunteers review every proposal, ensuring every dollar is used effectively. Building on over 103 years of service in Forsyth County, Wake Forest is proud to be a sponsor and partner in this work.

Whether large or small, your contribution helps build a stronger, more resilient community for all.

I hope you will join me in supporting this year’s campaign.

Gratefully,

Michael Lamb
