The Graylyn Estate named #1 ‘Best Boutique Hotel’ by USA TODAY Readers’ Choice Awards 

The Graylyn Estate has been named the #1 ‘Best Boutique Hotel’ by USA TODAY’s Readers’ Choice Awards. After a nomination by a team of travel experts and weeks of voting, USA TODAY 10Best announced the results today, naming Graylyn as the only North Carolina hotel to make the list. 

“The #1 best boutique hotel title shines a bright spotlight on The Graylyn Estate of Wake Forest University and Winston-Salem as one of the nation’s premier destinations. From hosting World Cup soccer to elevating every guest’s experience, our team remains deeply committed to delivering sincere hospitality,” said John Wise, vice president of Hospitality and Auxiliary Services.

The Graylyn Estate features 85 historic and modern guest rooms nestled throughout the pristine 55-acre estate. Originally constructed in 1932, the estate was once the private residence of Mr. and Mrs. Bowman Gray. Later, the property was donated to Wake Forest University, restored to its original splendor, and transformed into a boutique hotel and conference center. Graylyn is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is the second largest historic home in North Carolina, and is a member of Historic Hotels of America. 

Last June, The Graylyn Estate served as the basecamp for the German Men’s National Soccer Team during the 2026 World Cup. Graylyn was also recently named in the Top 25 Historic Hotels of America For Romantic Proposals.
