On September 3

  • The Wake Forest football game against Akron will kick off at 7 p.m.
  • Expect heavy pedestrian traffic at the University Parkway and Cherry Street intersection a few hours before and after game time
  • Police and safety personnel will be present at the intersection to help pedestrians cross safely

What pedestrians using the crossing need to know

Drivers on University Parkway are not used to encountering pedestrians at this intersection. For your safety:

  • Only cross at the crosswalk
  • Use the push buttons located on both sides of University Parkway and in the center median to activate the signal system and stop traffic before crossing
  • Obey all traffic signals
  • Obey the direction of police and safety personnel

What area drivers need to know

There is a new pedestrian crossing at University Parkway and Cherry Street, along with the re-engineered intersection that was completed last month. The pedestrian crossing connects the Faculty Drive neighborhood, Wake Forest University campus, and various commercial properties east and west across University Parkway, enabling access to destinations including Allegacy Financial Stadium, University Corporate Center, and, upon its completion next year, The Grounds.

While construction at The Grounds is still heavily underway, the new multi-use trail will be open for sneak peeks for the public during select major events in the area in the coming months. This includes Wake Forest’s first football game of the season on Thursday, September 3 – likely to be the first time area drivers see a large number of pedestrians crossing University Parkway at the Cherry Street intersection.

Drivers are urged to slow down as they approach this intersection, obey all traffic signals and the direction of police and safety personnel, and yield to pedestrians. Even outside of event windows, pedestrian use of the crossing is expected to increase, and drivers should be extra aware as traffic patterns evolve in the area.

Use of Faculty Drive gate and new crosswalk

Faculty and staff are encouraged to use the new gate and crosswalk, along with The Grounds multi-use trail, for upcoming game days. No parking is allowed on Faculty Drive.

The first opportunity to experience the trail comes Thursday, Sept. 3, when Wake Forest opens the football season against Akron, during Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night at Allegacy Stadium. Each employee may claim up to two sponsored tickets. Claim your tickets
