The Center for Global Programs and Studies recently announced new program directors for Wake Forest’s study abroad houses in Europe. Since acquiring its first overseas residence in 1971—a historic site on the Grand Canal in Venice—Wake Forest has expanded its global presence with residences in Vienna and London, providing immersive academic experiences for students. Through these programs, the University remains committed to transformative global education, ensuring that future participants benefit from dynamic leadership and meaningful cultural engagement.

Worrell House

Professor of Chemistry Christa Colyer will be the new Program Director of the Worrell House in London, effective July 1, 2025. Colyer’s background is marked by significant international engagement, including serving as resident professor for the Worrell House (Spring 2022, Summers 2011 & 2017) and participating in the inaugural global “FOCUS” FYS100 program. She has proven teaching and advising excellence, receiving the 2007 WFU Award for Excellence in Advising, the 2012-13 WFU Teaching Innovation Award, and the 2002 WFU Reid-Doyle Prize for Excellence in Teaching, stemming from over 25 years as a chemistry faculty member. Additionally, her administrative leadership, serving as department chair (2006-14) and associate dean of academic planning (2016-20), provides a solid foundation for budgetary and project management. Colyer’s diverse experience and passion will greatly benefit the Worrell House program.

Flow House

Associate Professor of German and Russian Grant McAllister has been appointed the new Director of the Flow House in Vienna, effective July 1, 2025. McAllister’s expertise includes extensive study abroad program management, multiple terms at the Flow House, and deep cultural and linguistic knowledge, with fluency in German. He has proven academic and administrative leadership, serving as chair of the German and Russian department and demonstrating strong administrative, faculty management, and budgetary skills. He also demonstrates program development and innovation, creating numerous study abroad programs, including pre-orientation and summer programs. Lastly, his established international network, with strong connections in Austria and Germany, provides valuable resources for program logistics and student support. McAllister’s dedication to study abroad and his understanding of Austrian culture will undoubtedly contribute to the continued success and growth of the Flow House program.

Casa Artom

Professor of Health and Exercise Science Peter Brubaker has been selected as the new Director of Casa Artom in Venice, effective July 1, 2026. Peter’s qualifications include serving as resident professor (Fall 2003 and Summer 2016) and being scheduled to return in Spring 2026. He has proven administrative leadership, serving as department chair for Health and Exercise Sciences (2017-2025), demonstrating strong program management, budgeting, and personnel oversight. Brubaker has developed a deep cultural and research-based understanding of Venice through extensive research on the impact of the “built environment” on Venetian populations’ health outcomes. He also demonstrates a commitment to local engagement, with ongoing studies in the Italian language to effectively engage with Casa Artom staff and local vendors. Brubaker’s leadership and understanding of Venice will ensure the continued success and enriching experience for all Casa Artom participants.
