Congratulations, Kevin, and to our runners-up, Frank Peplowski III and Ron Pardue.

WFDD is North Carolina’s first public radio station, located on Wake Forest University campus. Throughout the year, the radio station collects photos from listeners from North Carolina and Virginia to present a photo of the week. WFDD then features the week’s photo in their newsletter and social media view. Out of Boone, N.C., Kevin DeShields gave WFDD the story behind his 2022 Photo of the Year.

“I took this photo yesterday on Grandfather Mountain at their nature reserve. The weather was awful, but it did provide a unique light…I love that this almost feels like a painting. Shot in Fujifilm X-T3 with the Mitakon Speedmaster 35mm f0.95 lens, edited in Lightroom mobile.”
