Service set for former Wake Forest acccompanist

A celebration of life service for George Henry Salley Jr., who often provided percussion accompaniment for dance classes at Wake Forest, will be held Dec. 8 at Winston-Salem State University.

Known as Hashim Saleh to many in the Wake Forest and Winston-Salem communities, he had served as an accompanist in the Department of Theatre and Dance since 2004 on many occasions.  He performed for all levels of modern dance, movement for men and African dance classes in Wake Forest’s dance program.

The celebration of life service will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. in Dillard Auditorium, WSSU, 601 S. Martin Luther King Drive.

According to a Winston-Salem Journal story published after his recent death, he was well known as the longtime artistic director of Otesha Creative Arts Ensemble.
