Soledad O’Brien to speak at MLK Day event

Soledad O'BrienWake Forest and Winston-Salem State Universities are co-sponsoring events to commemorate Martin Luther King’s life. Soledad O’Brien, CNN anchor and author, will deliver the keynote address, “On Common Ground: Uniting Voices to Make History,” on Monday, Jan. 23, at 7 p.m. in Wait Chapel. The event is free and open to the public.

OTHER MLK EVENTS:

Basketball Tournament: 12:30-8 p.m. on Sat., Jan. 21 in Reynolds Gym — The invitational basketball tournament brings together intramural teams from several North Carolina universities, including Wake Forest, WSSU, North Carolina A&T, Johnson C. Smith University, the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. It includes tournament play culminating in a championship game as well as slam-dunk and three-point shot contests. The event is co-sponsored by Wake Forest’s campus recreation office and Office of Multicultural Affairs.

GospelFest: 3 p.m. on Sun., Jan. 22 in Brendle Recital Hall — The concert, co-sponsored by the Wake Forest University student activities fee (SAF) and the Wake Forest University Office of Multicultural Affairs, features gospel artist Kierra “Kiki” Sheard. The Wake Forest Gospel Choir will also perform.
