WFU honors two alumni

Wake Forest University President Thomas K. Hearn Jr. presented Howard Twiggs and Frank B. Holding with the 2002 Distinguished Alumni Award during President’s Weekend at Wake Forest Sept. 6.

Twiggs, a Raleigh lawyer, graduated from Wake Forest’s undergraduate college in 1954 and law school in 1957. He served in the North Carolina General Assembly from 1967 to 1974, as the Wake Forest Law School Alumni Council president from 1992 – 1993, and is currently on the Law Board of Visitors.

Holding, a resident of Smithfield, graduated from the college in 1952. He is the executive vice chairman and a director of First Citizens Bank and Trust Company. Along with his brother, Lewis, Holding established the Holding Scholars Program at Wake Forest in 1988 to provide scholarship assistance for promising students from eastern North Carolina.
