Staff Advisory Council meeting to feature presentation on Business 40 Closure
A timely update on the Business 40 closure will be presented Nov. 13 at a meeting of the Staff Advisory Council (SAC). The meeting will feature a presentation on the closure and commuting options by Pat Ivey with the N.C. Department of Transportation. Business 40 along downtown Winston-Salem is expected to close Nov. 17 for a major improvement project.
The meeting will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. in the Z. Smith Reynolds Library Auditorium (Room 404). It is open to all staff and others.
Also speaking will be Chaplain Tim Auman, who will share information about The Chaplain’s Emergency Fund.
In addition, Kelsey Reedy of the United Way of Forsyth County will speak on the impact of the United Way on the local community.

Student-led vigil tonight at 7 p.m. for Pittsburgh victims

As President Hatch shared with us in his message to the Wake Forest community Sunday, the horrific events in Pittsburgh have touched all of us. In response to the shootings at the Tree of Life Synagogue, a student-led candlelight vigil will be held on campus tonight, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m. on Manchester Plaza.
The community is invited to pray and to keep vigil as we acknowledge the suffering of those affected by this tragedy. At the same time, we will not let the lives lost be only a memory, but, as President Hatch shared, instead let them become a catalyst towards building bonds of friendship, respect and community.

Cross-country Tour De Frank raises thousands for Chaplain's Emergency Fund

John Champlin, assistant director of the Professional Development Center, raised more than $5,000 for the Chaplain’s Emergency Fund on a nationwide hot dog tour.
Fueled by his love for the simple frankfurter and a desire to support community members in need, Champlin drove from Virginia Beach, Va., to Marina Del Ray, Calif., on a “Tour De Frank” from May 24 to June 2. He concluded his adventure in Las Vegas.
Tour stops ranged from restaurants participating in the hot dog renaissance to classic hot dog joints, including Hillbilly Hot Dogs in Huntington, W. Va., which was featured on the Food Network show “Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives.”
“When selecting where to stop, I really wanted a mix of old school and new school; places that only have a few traditional toppings and some with more unusual options like mac and cheese, alfredo pasta, and even kimchi,” said Champlin.
The hot dog tasting tour connected Champlin’s food passion with the University’s motto, Pro Humanitate (For Humanity). One hundred percent of donations to the Tour De Frank #HotDogHumanitate support the Chaplain’s Emergency Fund at Wake Forest.
“The fund is important because it provides limited financial assistance to Wake Forest community members in times of disaster or personal emergency,” said University Chaplain Tim Auman. “Every dollar we receive makes a difference.”

Lighting of the Quad to be held Dec. 5 on Hearn Plaza
The Lighting of the Quad ceremony will be held Dec. 5 on Hearn Plaza from 7 to 8 p.m.
Vice President Penny Rue and Chaplain Tim Auman will participate in the event, as well as representatives of the student-run Jewish organization Hillel and the Winston-Salem organization Potter’s House FRC (family resource center).
Campus a cappella groups and the Wake Forest Gospel Choir will perform.
The event is sponsored by the Student Union, the Office of the President, and the Student Activity Fee.
