Congratulations to Peter Brubaker, professor of health and exercise science, whose proposal entitled “Transition from Risk Factors to Early Heart Failure: Prevalence, Pathogenesis and Phenomics (MESA 6) has been funded by the National Institutes of Health and by (subaward/subcontract from) Wake Forest University Health Sciences.
Congratulations to Steve Messier, professor of health and exercise science, whose proposal entitled “Optimizing the value of pain management in knee osteoarthritis patients with comorbidities” has been funded by the National Institutes of Health and by (subaward/subcontract from) the Brigham and Womens Hospital.

Wake Forest AD John Currie to speak at Staff Advisory Council meeting
John Currie, who joined Wake Forest as director of athletics early this year, will speak at the Nov. 13 meeting of the Staff Advisory Council (SAC).
The meeting will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. in Benson University Center, Room 401 B/D. The meeting is open to staff and others.
Also speaking will be Melissa Clodfelter, assistant vice president of campus engagement and professional development.

Wake Forest Artisans' Fair to be held Dec. 6
The annual Wake Forest Artisans’ Fair will be held Dec. 6 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Benson University Center, Room 401.
More than 35 vendors are expected to show and sell their handcrafted products. Faculty and staff, including retirees, are invited to bring their products to sell at the fair.
Some of the items offered for sale include:
- honey and honey products
- baked goods
- repurposed wood from Wake Forest
- photographs, cards and print
- paintings
- jewelry
- bath and body products
- book-themed page art
- hand-blown glass
- crocheted products
- handmade books, blank journals, calendars and guest books

More Barn Concert Series offers four concerts in early 2020

The More Concert Series has scheduled four shows for the early months of 2020.
All concerts will take place at The Barn at Reynolda Village. All will begin at 8 p.m., with doors opening at 7 p.m. They will be seated general admission concerts with limited reserved table seating.
Tickets for the concerts may be purchased online.
The concerts include:
- Martha Bassett, Jan. 23, $30 in advance, $35 at the door, reserved tables (four seats) are $150.
- Wild Ponies, Feb. 27, $20, $25 at the door, reserved tables (four seats) are $100.
- Shana Tucker, March 19, $25, $30 at the door, reserved tables (four seats) are $125.
- Sam Baker and Friends, April 16, $30, $35 at the door, reserved tables (four seats) are $150.

University Police Department plans open house for Nov. 13
The Wake Forest University Police Department will hold an open house on Nov. 13 from 1 to 3 p.m. to celebrate its newly-renovated communications center. The police department is located in Alumni Hall.
Police Chief Regina Lawson and Emergency Services Manager Chauncey Bowers will present remarks at 1:30 p.m. Afterward, guided tours of the communications center will be offered.
Light refreshments will be served.
The police department encourages advance registration by those planning to attend. An invitation to the event has been distributed to faculty, staff and students. The invitation provides an opportunity to register online.
