On Sept. 3, Wake Forest President Susan R. Wente took a seat in the EGR 211 Materials and Mechanics class at Wake Downtown to learn about the electronic conductivity of metals and semiconductors and get a student’s view of the academic experience at Wake Forest. “One of the foremost attractions of Wake Forest for me was the commitment to academic excellence that the faculty embrace and students seek,” Wente said. “Discovery and exploration of knowledge is at the heart of the University, and I am so pleased to see how Wake Forest delivers on those elements of the academic mission.”

Julia Jackson-Newsom has been named Senior Advisor for Planning and Partnerships in the Office of the President. Jackson-Newsom comes to Wake Forest from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where she has served as the associate chancellor for strategy and policy in the chancellor’s office for the past six years.

Wake Forest grieves for all those impacted by the evolving humanitarian crises in Haiti and Afghanistan. The devastation and immeasurable loss wrought by both the August 14 earthquake and Tropical Storm Grace in Haiti and the violence and suffering in Afghanistan are difficult to comprehend. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to our neighbors across the globe who are suffering from significant humanitarian crises right now,” said Wake Forest President Susan R. Wente.
