The following message was emailed to students, faculty and staff on January 23 by Communications and External Relations:
Following two vehicle break-ins early in the spring semester, the University Police Department is again urging students, faculty and staff to lock their vehicles on and near campus to help prevent break-ins.
The University Police Department is continuing to take steps to address vehicle break-ins, but officers ask that campus community members assist in the effort by making it a habit to lock vehicles.
Police say the newest break-ins are identical to those occurring last semester on and at nearby off-campus locations. Thieves entered unlocked vehicles and stole whatever they found of value. In nearly every instance, the vehicles were owned by students.

Good morning, Wake Forest faculty and staff,
Late in 2019, Wake Forest announced that Tanya Jachimiak, Director of the Title IX Office/Title IX Coordinator and Section 504 Coordinator, had agreed to become Associate Vice President for Civil Rights and Title IX Education and Compliance at Michigan State University. Tanya has been a respected and cherished member of our campus community for over six years; her professionalism, integrity, and commitment to fairness are the hallmarks of her legacy. She has played a central role in the university’s efforts to prevent and respond to sexual assault, and it is vital that we hire a knowledgeable and equity-minded leader to assume these responsibilities. The university has engaged Isaacson, Miller to assist with this important search.

Ibram X. Kendi
Ibram X. Kendi, professor of history and international relations, and founding director of the Antiracist Research and Policy Center at American University, delivered the Martin Luther King Jr. keynote address in Wait Chapel on Jan. 20.
For 20 years, Wake Forest and Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) have collaborated on bringing in a keynote speaker to honor the life and legacy of King, making it the longest-running partnership between the two institutions.
Before Kendi’s speech, a ceremony for this year’s “Building the Dream” winners was held in the Donald J. Reaves Student Center on the campus of Winston-Salem State University. The award is traditionally presented to a professor or administrator and a student from both Wake Forest and WSSU who exemplify King’s qualities and promote diversity within the community.
Wake Forest employees Shannon Ashford and Darlene Starnes, and WSSU employee Heather Davis were honored, as were Wake students Neicy Myers and Liz Torres-Ramirez and WSSU student Naviyea Adams.

Unbroken Circle poses in front of Wait Chapel.
Old-time string band The Unbroken Circle will perform two shows at Wake Forest in February in support of The Shalom Project. The Wake Forest-based multi-generational band will perform at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 7, and Saturday, Feb. 8, in Kulynych Auditorium in the Byrum Welcome Center.
The shows will be open to the public. Donations offered during the local band performances will support the programs and initiatives of The Shalom Project, based in Winston-Salem.
Over the course of two performance nights in February 2019, The Unbroken Circle raised more than $28,000 in donations for The Shalom Project.
