IdeasCityWS Festival and the Marketplace of Ideas this Saturday

On Saturday, Oct. 2, the IdeasCityWS Festival comes to Bailey Park as art, tech, design, and culture lead the conversation forward. Featuring interactive exhibits from two dozen local creative organizations, we’ll engage with a range of working ideas poised to move our communities forward as we reimagine a post-pandemic Winston-Salem. Vice Provost for the Arts & Interdisciplinary Initiatives Christina Soriano asks, “Winston-Salem has so many talented artists and scientists doing important work, yet often separated from one another. How can educational institutions be leaders in bringing these communities together more powerfully?”

The Center for RECAAL presents a conversation with Dawn Davis
The Center for Research, Engagement and Collaboration in African American Life’s “Black Entrepreneurs, Innovators & Business Leaders Series” will present a public conversation with Dawn Davis, the first Black female editor-in-chief of Bon Appétit. This virtual event will be held on Tuesday, April 27 at 6 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
Last year, Dawn Davis became one of the few Black top editors in Condé Nast’s history. In her wide-ranging role, she will lead the Bon Appétit brand and have editorial control of the company’s food outlets “Epicurious,” “Healthyish” and “Basically” across all media, including print, digital, social media and video. Davis brings over 30 years of experience as a prominent editor and executive who has been one of the few Black power players in the book world. In her role as a vice president at Simon & Schuster, she founded and published “37 Ink,” an outlet promoting and advancing the stories and work of marginalized voices. She also brings her avid cooking skills and a general passion for culinary cultures to this role. Davis is the author of “If You Can Stand the Heat: Tales From Chefs and Restaurateurs,” which includes profiles of chefs such as Edna Lewis and Anthony Bourdain.
