Post office and mail services closing early on Dec. 31

On December 31, Wake Forest post office and mail services will close at 1 p.m. Mail couriers will complete the morning route only. Please have all mail ready to go out by the time the courier arrives.

Happy New Year!

Poteat will get new dining area; post office headed to Benson

Wake Forest soon will embark on its next big step in revitalizing Hearn Plaza, following recent improvements that brought a much larger Subway and convenience store to the area.

Preliminary work will begin soon on converting a portion of Poteat Residence Hall into a new dining area that may appear similar to a traditional pub. With some modern, loft-style touches, the dining spot will serve pizza, wings and salads and be appointed with comfortable seating, pool tables, televisions and more. Diagrams and renderings of this new social venue will soon be on display in the Benson Center.

The area set for renovation is now occupied by the campus post office and related package-shipping area below the post office. Initial preparations for the renovation begin within the next month. The new venue will open when the fall 2013 semester begins.

This summer, the post office and package service will move to a new home in Benson University Center. Postal and shipping services now offered in the Poteat Residence Hall space will continue in the first floor of the Benson Center. Until last summer, Residence Life and Housing and Deacon One Card offices were located there.

Decisions on how to use the Poteat and Benson spaces were made after the Office of Campus Life and Leadership sought considerable student input about their interests and preferences.  Forums to garner student input were held, too.

Ken Zick, vice president and dean for student affairs, would like to thank all who have contributed to making this possible: the students who have contributed their ideas and vision to this initiative; the staff who have devoted much time and energy to this collaborative effort; and the University offices that have moved from one place to another in recent times to make room for more student-centered places on campus.

UPS Store to close; post office to reopen

Students with packages

Students will still be able to receive and send packages using all carriers from the post office.

The UPS Store in Poteat Residence Hall is closing Nov. 30 and will be replaced by a U.S. Postal Service contract post office. The post office will open Dec. 1, so there should not be any gaps in services, said Director of Purchasing Phil Hendrix, who oversees Reynolda Campus Mail Services. The post office will be managed and operated by mail services’ employees.

The retail space currently occupied by the UPS Store will be renovated starting Dec. 1. During the renovation, postal operations will shift to the opposite end of the post office from where the UPS Store is currently located. The renovations are expected to be completed in late December. The post office’s new phone number is 336-758-5281.

Delivery of mail to student and department mail boxes will not be affected. Individuals and departments will still be able to ship packages through UPS, as well as through Federal Express and USPS priority mail. Read more
