A message from WFU administration

This message was emailed to the community this morning.

Dear Wake Forest Community,

Around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30, a group of approximately 20 students began demonstrating peacefully on Hearn Plaza in solidarity with pro-Palestine activists on campuses across the country. The demonstration transitioned to assembling tents on Hearn Plaza around 6:30 p.m. Administrators informed students that erecting tents and remaining overnight was inconsistent with the intended and approved use of the space and violated health and safety policies.

Announcement about Baity Street redevelopment

In August 2023, Wake Forest announced it was exploring the redevelopment of University-owned property adjacent to Allegacy Stadium, Couch Ballpark and the Joel Coliseum. Working with the City of Winston-Salem, Carter and Front Street Capital, this redevelopment effort aims to reinforce Winston-Salem’s position as a tourism, sports and entertainment destination by creating a lively mixed-use development with plans for new retail, restaurant, experiential and/or residential spaces.

Carter and Front Street Capital have worked on many projects throughout the country, including the redevelopment of Summerhill (former home to Atlanta Braves) in Atlanta, Georgia, and Bailey South in Winston-Salem. The Carter and Front Street Capital team have held multiple listening sessions with students, staff, and the wider Winston-Salem community since last fall to help inform the project’s direction.

Teaching in the classroom & Beyond: High Performance Computing

Konghao Zhao, Zongyue Teng, Andrea Jiang, Mario Satriale, and Nicole Sung, trained for the Student Cluster Competition with their HPC mentors.

High Performance Computing (HPC) at Wake Forest has been a University staple for more than two decades, and the HPC Team oversees the DEAC Cluster, Wake Forest University’s HPC system, 14 departments and more than 500 researchers using the cluster daily.

Training and tutorial sessions have been a regular duty of the HPC Team since the DEAC Cluster’s inception. After years of increased curiosity and high demand from student researchers, the HPC team noted the need for further Cluster instruction. Seven years ago, a collaboration with the computer science department led to the launch of a special topics course to expand on that work.
