Marcus Sanderlin named as one of Triad Business Journal’s 40 Under 40

Office of Leadership Engagement Director Marcus Sanderlin was recently named to the Triad Business Journal’s 2026 class of 40 Under 40 award winners. Presented annually, the Triad Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 awards recognize emerging leaders who help shape the region’s economic, civic, and professional future. Honorees span industries but share a common distinction: meaningful contributions to their organizations alongside a commitment to strengthening the Triad as a place to live and work. Honorees were selected from a competitive set of nominees, and an award celebration took place on February 24 at First Horizon Coliseum in Greensboro.
Since joining Wake Forest in 2017, Sanderlin has epitomized the University’s innovative spirit by spearheading initiatives to support the career success of diverse students. An example of his ingenuity is a recent multi-platform event he organized that brought together more than 200 students from Wake Forest, Winston-Salem State University, Salem College, and UNC-Greensboro, connecting each with 18 companies focused on recruiting diverse talent. Under Sanderlin’s leadership, his team also achieved a 95% student employment rate after graduation for the program’s 2024 cohort. As a motivator, educator, and career coach, Sanderlin strives to be an advocate for holistic leadership development and professional advancement.
Sanderlin described the recognition as incredibly humbling, noting that it reflects the intersection of intentional professional effort and deeply purposeful work.
“To be recognized for work that is people-centered, often grounded in the spirit of Pro Humanitate, is a gentle reminder that there is real value in committing to work that elevates others and contributes to the well-being of our communities,” shared Sanderlin.
Sanderlin holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from the University of Central Florida and a Master of Arts in Student Affairs Administration from Michigan State University.
