Julie L. Groves receives Distinguished Risk Manager Award

The University Risk Management and Insurance Association (URMIA) has named Julie L. Groves, director of risk management, as a recipient of the organization’s Distinguished Risk Manager Award on Tuesday, Oct. 14, at its 56th Annual Conference.
Groves has more than 25 years of experience in the higher education risk management and insurance industry. Her dedication to the association and the profession itself can be seen through the myriad of roles she has undertaken for URMIA including seven years on the association’s board of directors, culminating as the organization’s president in 2022-2023. During her time on the board, Groves focused on the inclusivity and engagement of the entire URMIA community.
Her passion for supporting new risk managers and those being a risk management department of one shined as she led the development of URMIA’s mentorship program as well as a new community of solo risk professionals providing them a space to exchange knowledge, test out ideas, and learn from each other. She also serves as the host of the URMIA Matters podcast episodes having conversations with a variety of those in the higher education risk management and insurance arena for the betterment of the broader community.
The Distinguished Risk Manager (DRM) Award is given to long-standing URMIA members in recognition of their extraordinary contributions to the association, as well as their professional accomplishments and leadership in the field of higher education risk management. Award recipients are nominated and selected by their URMIA peers for this high honor recognizing a long-term, distinguished career.
