Special Collections & Archives brings together classic literature and Halloween fun with “A Gothic Romance Event”
Continuing spooky season on campus and only two days after the success of Project Pumpkin, “A Gothic Romance Event” is taking place Thursday, Oct. 30, from 3:30–5:30 p.m. in ZSR’s Special Collections & Archives (SC&A) reading room.
Costumes are encouraged, and all are welcome to attend!
Faculty, staff, students, alumni, friends, and family are invited to join in the fun by enjoying stories that capture the eerie, mischievous, and mysterious essence of the ghostly season, along with snacks, souvenirs, and a pop-up exhibit of Gothic literature.
“This year’s theme is inspired by our large collection of 18th and 19th century Gothic literature, and the event will include a pop-up exhibit of first editions of Frankenstein, Dracula, The Castle of Otranto, Northanger Abbey, and many other classics of Gothic literature,” said Megan Mulder, special collections librarian and event organizer.

Since 2016, SC&A has hosted a whimsical Halloween-themed event, with a different theme each year featuring various exhibits from the collections.
Mulder continued, “It’s one of many events that Special Collections & Archives sponsors throughout the year. We particularly like it because it gives people a chance to experience our space and our collections outside of a traditional classroom setting.”
Work Year-Round with Special Collections & Archives
ZSR’s Special Collections & Archives plays a critical role in preserving and making available Wake Forest’s history. The archives include more than 800 years of primary source materials in their original formats. SC&A is open to researchers from the Wake Forest community and beyond and facilitates many class sessions each semester. Staff are happy to collaborate with instructors to integrate materials into their curriculum.
