The University recently learned that Ann Crawford Cunningham passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2025, after several years of living with frontotemporal dementia. Ann served in the Department of Education for more than 20 years, where she was known for her dedication to students and her passion for global education. She established a study abroad program in New Zealand, expanding opportunities for students to learn and grow through international experiences.

The Wake Forest community extends our condolences to Ann’s family and friends. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025, from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Davis Community Chapel. Graduate students from the School of Divinity will support the memorial service alongside Ann’s daughter, Bailey Pittenger (BA ’13, MA ’15, MDiv ’26). An obituary can be found here.

Each of us is affected by loss in different ways. The Wake Forest community is encouraged to seek support by calling 336-758-CARE (2273) or visiting the We Are Wake website to learn more about resources offered by the University.
