Wake Forest notes the passing of Joseph Williamson Luter III (’61) on Aug. 28, at the age of 86. An alumnus and former member of the University’s Board of Trustees (1997–2001), Luter is the namesake of Luter Residence Hall, which opened in 1971 and became the University’s first coeducational residence hall. Luter led Smithfield Foods for many years and was a longtime supporter of Wake Forest.

Wake Forest extends its condolences to Luter’s family and friends. An obituary can be found here.
