As the Wake Forest community engages with the Draft Statement on Academic Freedom and Freedom of Expression released last week, a new collection of discussion guides is now available to help facilitate meaningful conversations. This resource is designed to be approachable and flexible, providing everything you need for a quick discussion or a series of in-depth conversations.

The guides include:

  • Suggested questions to spark dialogue
  • Extensive resources for deeper exploration
  • A general facilitation guide for leading group discussions
  • A searchable format so you can easily revisit key topics

Whether you are planning a formal discussion or an informal conversation, these guides offer the tools to support thoughtful engagement with the Draft Statement. The collection of guides is now available on the freeexpression.wfu.edu website and on the Center for the Advancement of Teaching website.

We encourage faculty, staff, and students to use these resources to host their own discussions and share their perspectives. Feedback on the statement is welcomed. Community members can complete a form to submit feedback, which will be tracked and considered by the drafting team with public responses. The feedback period will end on March 21 to enable revision and reporting to the Board of Trustees at the end of April.
