College Board of Visitors Leadership Award winners named

Congratulations to Associate Professor of Anthropology Sherri Lawson Clark and Assistant Dean of Academic Advising Karen Bennett on being recognized by the 2024 College Board of Vistors for their leadership at Wake Forest.

Associate Professor of Anthropology Sherri Lawson Clark has been
awarded the 2024 College Board of Visitors Faculty Leadership Award for her wide-ranging leadership initiatives across the college and in the Winston-Salem community.

Assistant Dean of Academic Advising Karen Bennett, has been awarded the 2024 College Board of Visitors Staff Leadership Award for her four decades of dedication to the Wake Forest community and her leadership in student advising.

Lawson Clark was selected as this year’s recipient for her impressive and wide-ranging leadership initiatives, including expanding the American Ethnic Studies program and successfully facilitating connections between Wake Forest faculty and community organizations. 

“Being recognized for my ongoing dedication to supporting the College’s community and mission is deeply meaningful, especially coming from such a distinguished group. This acknowledgment inspires me to pursue further growth and continue making a positive impact in the classroom, through my scholarship, and within the Wake Forest and Winston-Salem communities,” said Lawson Clark.

Bennett has been responsible for administering academic policies and procedures, assisting with student and faculty concerns, and recruiting and training academic advisers. She works closely with faculty and staff advisers and their advisees to enhance the advising experience. In particular, Bennett has a passion for reaching out to students who are struggling to navigate the academic landscape. 

“She makes a difference every day through her work advising students because she sincerely cares about helping them achieve their potential as students and whole persons,” said psychology professor Christy Buchanan, chair of the psychology department and former Associate Dean for Academic Advising.
