Artist and Hanes Gallery Director Paul Bright will participate in a gallery discussion with David Houston, director of the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum, on “Matter of Style,” Bright’s exhibition at the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art (SECCA).

The event will be held Thursday, Sept. 15 at 6 p.m.

“My relationship with David goes back 40 years to when we were both in school. He was a few years ahead of me and teaching art history,” said Bright. “David was an early mentor and supporter of my work and has been instrumental in connecting some of our exhibiting artists to Hanes Gallery. By assisting me with these introductions and arrangements he has also assisted Wake Forest.

For “Matter of Style,” Bright asked a number of people familiar with his work to respond to it in whatever way they chose. Respondents include Wake Foresters Amy Catanzano (English professor and poet-in-residence), Laura Mullen (humanities professor), Katie Wolf ‘13 (assistant director, Face to Face Speaker Forum), Thomas Frank (professor emeritus, religion), Louie Goldstein (professor emeritus, music), Ulrike Wiethaus (professor emeritus, religion), and Cami Burruss ‘16, Jay Buchanan ‘17, Eric Juth ‘11, Adelaide Menzies, and Marcus Keely ‘10.

The exhibition includes paper collages, video, an e-book, sound collages, an artist book and a collage fashion performance. “Matter of Style” is on display through Oct. 30.
