Samuel T. Gladding

Samuel T. Gladding, professor and chair of the department of counseling at Wake Forest University, has been named by the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s (UAB) counselor education program to its Hall of Fame.

Gladding, who taught at UAB from 1984 to 1990, is the first person selected to receive this honor. The award is presented to UAB professors and students who have distinguished themselves in the counseling profession.

Gladding was the 2004-2005 president of the American Counseling Association. He is the author of a number of leading books in the field of counseling, including “Counseling: A Comprehensive Profession,” “Family Therapy: History, Theory and Practice” and “Counseling as an Art: The Creative Arts in Counseling.”

He currently serves on the editorial board of The Arts in Psychotherapy: An International Journal and is a past editor of the Journal for Specialists in Group Work. He has also been president of Chi Sigma Iota, the international academic and professional honor society for counseling.

Gladding joined the Wake Forest faculty in 1990. He also serves as associate provost for the university.
