William Thomas Wells has been named director of financial aid at Wake Forest University.

Wells, who began the Wake Forest position on Jan. 1, had been assistant director of scholarships and student aid for federal programs at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill since 1980. He was a graduate intern in the UNC-Chapel Hill Office of Scholarships and Student Aid from 1977 to 1980. He also taught history at Arendell Parrott Academy in Kinston in 1977.

A 1974 Wake Forest alumnus, Wells received master’s degrees in history and adult and higher education at UNC-Chapel Hill. He also completed a university management development program at UNC-Chapel Hill. Wells is a native of Greenville.
