Wake Forest University has promoted Robert D. Mills of Winston-Salem to associate vice president for university advancement.

In his new position, Mills manages the capital support and advancement technologies group for Wake Forest’s university advancement office. The group’s responsibilities include major gift fund raising and applying the tools of information technology and new media to strengthen the relationships between Wake Forest and its alumni and friends.

Mills joined Wake Forest’s fund-raising staff in 1972 as assistant to the director of development. He was promoted to director of alumni activities in 1978 and assistant vice president for university relations in 1986. From 1989 to 1995, Mills directed the university’s Heritage and Promise capital campaign.

He earned a bachelor’s degree from Wake Forest in 1971 and a master of business administration degree from the university’s Babcock Graduate School of Management in 1980.
