This year marks the eighth Commemoration of the Enslaved at Wake Forest. The observance is scheduled for Tuesday, April 28, from 4:30 – 5 p.m. As in years past,  the Commemoration will take place on the steps of Wait Chapel. In the event of rain, the event will move inside Wait Chapel.

The Commemoration brings the campus community together to remember and honor the lives of the enslaved individuals who worked for or were sold to benefit the institution that would become Wake Forest University.

Wake Forest University faculty, staff, students, and alumni gather outside of Wait Chapel for ‘Remember With Us: Commemoration of the Enslaved’ on Tuesday, April 29, 2025. Assistant Chaplain for Muslim Life Imran Haq delivers the invocation.
