Professor of Chemistry Christa Colyer has been awarded the 2025 College Board of Visitors Faculty Leadership Award for her commitment to compassionate leadership in both her research and her teaching. Associate Director of Academic Affairs Anna Henley has been awarded the 2025 College Board of Visitors Staff Leadership Award for her significant contributions to the College and the Summer School program.
Reflecting on what the award means to her, Colyer recalls moments of mentorship that have guided her tenure at Wake Forest.
“Winning the award made me think about the faculty I’ve looked up to as leaders on my own academic journey,” Colyer said. “I feel very humbled and honored to have my work recognized by the College Board of Visitors when it is really only possible because of the many amazing people with whom I get to work.”
Colyer’s influence — from her innovative carbon dot research to her transformative mentorship — has nurtured a generation of scientists who carry forward her passion for discovery and commitment to education.
Throughout the past decade, Henley has become an indispensable member of the Dean’s Office team, working closely with several associate deans to organize and support essential functions related to faculty development. Her clear communication and ability to navigate complex academic processes — including tenure and promotion, research leaves, and program reviews — have made her a trusted resource for faculty and staff alike.
Henley’s recognition with the Staff Leadership Award underscores not only her professional achievements but also the embodiment of Wake Forest’s Pro Humanitate motto.
