Following a nationwide realignment directed by the U.S. Army, the Wake Forest Army ROTC program will be redesignated as an Extension Unit of the Army ROTC program at North Carolina A&T State University, beginning in the 2026-2027 academic year. This administrative change includes phased staffing adjustments over the next 12-18 months.

Deacon with Army ROTC

Wake Forest remains committed to supporting students pursuing military leadership and service through ROTC. The program’s mission-driven, student-centered approach will continue to provide access to high-quality military training while aligning with national programmatic goals.

The program’s day-to-day operations will remain the same, with the Department of Military Science continuing to operate on campus with full-time Army faculty and staff. Students from Wake Forest, Winston-Salem State, and Salem College will continue to train, take courses, and participate in leadership development activities on campus. All Army ROTC scholarships, stipends, and commissioning pathways remain fully in place.

ROTC is an academic program that prepares students to become military leaders in service to our nation. Through a combination of coursework and hands-on training, cadets gain foundational military knowledge while building essential leadership skills. Upon graduation and successful completion of military requirements, they commission as Second Lieutenants in the U.S. Army.

Since 1951, Wake Forest has proudly served as host to the Army ROTC program. The program has produced more than  2,000 commissioned officers.
