2024 Champion of Change award recipients

Nominations are now open for the 12th annual Champions of Change campus sustainability awards. Students, faculty, and staff are invited to nominate themselves and others as a leader of the sustainability transformation on campus before the deadline on February 28.

The Office of Sustainability is seeking nominations for those who advance sustainability through:

Resource Conservation (energy, water, or waste reduction)

  • Nominations may include projects and efforts that have resulted in energy conservation, water conservation, waste reduction, or a combination of these areas.

Academics and Engagement (teaching, research, engaged learning)

  • Nominations may include classes with sustainability-focused learning outcomes, research in sustainability-focused areas, and/or opportunities to learn about sustainability through practical application.

Service and Social Action

  • Nominations may include service projects or campaigns that result in social and/or environmental justice outcomes for individuals and the communities served.

Bright Ideas (innovative ideas that have been or could be implemented)

  • Nominations may include sustainability-focused projects, efforts, or ideas that are unique and innovative on the Wake Forest campus.

The 12th annual Champions of Change award winners will be announced by Michele Gillespie and Jackie Travisano during a celebration on April 30, from 3 – 4 p.m., in the Green Room of Reynolda Hall. The event is open to all WFU students, faculty, and staff, including former Champions of Change award winners and their supervisors. Join the Office of Sustainability for the announcement and open reception as they conclude Earth Month 2025.
