Elena Pedigo Clark Awarded Best Book in Pedagogy

The American Association of Teachers of Slavic and East European Languages (AATSEEL) has awarded the 2024 Best Book in Pedagogy to Trauma and Truth: Teaching Russian Literature on the Chechen Wars by Elena Pedigo Clark, associate professor of German and Russian.

AATSEEL praises Clark’s work for bridging literary scholarship and pedagogy, offering an in-depth exploration of literary works on the Chechen Wars. She examines writings by prominent journalists and veterans, including Anna Politkovskaya, Arkady Babchenko, Mikail Eldin, and Zakhar Prilepin.

“Through rigorous analysis and thoughtful application of trauma theory, Trauma and Truth contributes to the fields of Slavic studies, trauma studies, and cultural pedagogy, making it an essential work for scholars, educators, and students,” reads the AATSEEL commendation.
