On Feb. 7, the Wake Forest Board of Trustees passed a resolution recognizing Coach Dave Clawson for the remarkable service he and his wife, Catherine, have demonstrated within the Wake Forest community.
In summary, the resolution reads: “That the Board of Trustees extends to David and Catherine Clawson its heartfelt gratitude for their dedication to Wake Forest, for Coach Clawson’s exemplary leadership for eleven years at the helm of Wake Forest’s much-loved football program, and for the collective and significant contributions of David and Catherine as distinguished representatives of Wake Forest University.”
The resolution recognized the following actions, among others:
Dave Clawson’s impact on the football program, which included leading the Deacons to their most successful period in history with seven consecutive bowl appearances, an ACC Atlantic Division title, and consecutive top-10 national rankings in 2021 and 2022.
The program’s exceptional academic achievements under his leadership, highlighted by the highest-ever team GPA in Fall 2023 and 29 Academic All-ACC honorees.
Record-breaking fan engagement during his tenure, with more than 208,000 fans attending games in 2024, including a school record of 4,701 students at the Ole Miss game.
His role in transforming athletic facilities through $150 million in improvements, including the McCreary Football Complex and Sutton Sports Performance Center.
The Clawsons’ commitment to the broader Wake Forest community, exemplified by their $250,000 gift establishing a scholarship for first-generation college students from the Piedmont Triad area.
His leadership in college football nationally, serving as Chair of the ACC Football Coaches and on the Board of Directors of the American Football Coaches Association.
