The awards highlight exceptional contributions and service to Wake Forest’s disability community. Award winners have made significant efforts to raise awareness of disability issues or to provide practical help and support to the disability community on campus.
In recognition of their actions, awardees receive certificates of appreciation, books related to disability and inclusion and tote bags.
The 2024 Disability Champion award winners are:
Michaela Appeltova, Department of History, for organizing a film screening and panel on disability issues
The Athletics Administration, for providing captions for events and content
The Department of German and Russian, for improving the accessibility of their website and social media as their RIDE goal
Pete Nowak,University Marketing & Communication, for improving accessibility of WFU websites through content manager education
The Hanes Gallery exhibit team for “Of The Times“– showcasing 60 years of student-acquired art at Wake Forest. With special acknowledgment to undergraduate student and art intern Anne Jones for her commitment to disability inclusion and the accessibility of art to our community.
