The impact of Helene has been catastrophic, with entire communities in western North Carolina now facing a long road to recovery and rebuilding. Below are ways to support Triad-area and WFU relief efforts and to provide assistance to those in our WFU community who may need it.

Triad-area relief efforts

The Office of Civic and Community Engagement is tracking relief efforts, with a focus on those generated in the Triad area. This outreach website provides a list of organizations, whether they are collecting supplies, donation needs, and links to make monetary donations.

Wake Forest relief efforts

Many Wake Forest individuals, departments and student organizations are also collecting donations and supplies to share with communities in need. The Hurricane Helene WFU Response & Relief Efforts Form is a way for departments and organizations to share any hurricane relief/response efforts they have launched.

Support for Wake Foresters

The Chaplain’s Emergency Fund provides financial assistance to WFU students, faculty, staff, and contract workers in times of unanticipated financial hardship, including those impacted by Helene. Events of this scope and severity affect us all in different ways. Wake Forest also offers support and counseling services for all students, faculty and staff.

Academic Impact

Faculty and staff are encouraged to continue extending grace, flexibility and understanding to the many impacted students. Undergraduate students are encouraged to find academic support through the Office of Academic Advising.

The Wake Forest marching band joined with NC State’s band on Oct. 5 to play “Amazing Grace” in tribute to those impacted by Helene. Learn more on WFU’s Instagram. TODAY’s Hoda Kotb shared this video, and ABC’s World News with David Muir featured this clip. The tribute was also featured in Southern Living magazine.

To coordinate support for another school asking for assistance, contact Senior Advisor for Planning and Partnerships Julia Jackson-Newsom. The President’s office will continue to coordinate and maximize Hurricane Helene relief effort opportunities in the Triad, at Wake Forest and for Wake Foresters.
