After-Action Review Committee report to the community
This message is sent on behalf of After-Action Review Committee co-chairs Arjun (Raja) Chatterjee and Corey D. B. Walker.
Dear Wake Forest community,
In May, President Wente established an after-action review (AAR) committee to assess the University’s actions and response to the demonstrations and encampment that occurred from April 30 through May 3. President Wente’s full charge to the committee and a list of the committee’s members are available on the AAR website.
Over seven weeks, the committee, assisted by Ropes & Gray LLP, worked to develop a textured and multidimensional understanding of community members’ perspectives of what occurred during this period. The committee employed multiple methods in its review, including:
Inviting Wake Forest University community members to share their perspectives on the events during the period and conducted 43 individual conversations with members of our campus community that included University administrators, faculty, staff, and students
Reviewing documents, policies, video footage, social media, reports, and various materials received from students, faculty, staff, and administrators
Thoroughly reviewing existing policies, procedures, guidelines and standards in place at the time of the events.
The committee appreciates the commitment of our university community for supporting this review process. We are truly appreciative of the members of our community who voluntarily participated in the conversations and who offered additional materials to aid the committee in fulfilling its charge.
We are pleased to share the After-Action Review Committee’s Report to the Community detailing the work of the committee and our recommendations. We are hopeful that this process, report, and our shared work will help to enhance and strengthen the bonds of our distinctive community.
Sincerely,
Arjun (Raja) Chatterjee, MD, MS
