As another school year draws to a close, there are many causes for celebration on campus. While we send off our graduates on a new journey, we also celebrate and honor the outstanding careers of faculty and staff members who have or will be retiring this academic year.
The Retiree Luncheon is an annual celebration to recognize retiring colleagues. This year, it was hosted on May 2 in partnership with Human Resources, the Office of the Provost, and the Retiree Association Steering Committee. This event allows current and soon-to-be retirees to connect and spark community.
This year, the event included a special conversation with Tom Hearn and Reid Morgan discussing the writing of Hearn’s late father, President Emeritus Thomas K. Hearn. Former President Hearn’s book was published in cooperation with the Center for Creative Leadership and is titled “Leaves From A President’s Notebook: Lessons On Life And Leadership.”
The group of 2023-2024 retirees served a collective 897 years at Wake Forest. Meri Silveri is this year’s longest-serving honoree with 40 years of dedication to Wake Forest; in 2012, Silveri was named Mail Manager of the Year for the Southeast Region by the College of University Mail Services Association.
“Every year, this event is a chance to reunite with members of the retiree community, which now totals 712,” remarked Harold Holmes, former Dean of Students and current retiree. “Today we also have the privilege of welcoming 40 new members to this retiree family, and celebrate the storied careers that have led them to this point.”
The full list of 2023-2024 retirees and photos from the event are available here. Our retirees will always have a home with Wake Forest and we hope our community joins us in celebrating them.
