Janey Thompson
Update: The location for the gathering place for students, faculty and staff on April 10 has been changed to Benson 401.
This message was sent on behalf of President Susan R. Wente and Vice President for Campus Life Shea Kidd Brown.
Dear Wake Forest community,
We are saddened to inform you that Jane (Janey) Thompson, a sophomore from Charlotte, N.C., died earlier today after suffering complications from a blood clot.
We extend our deepest condolences to Janey’s family and fellow students, as well as faculty and staff who knew Janey. She was a biophysics major and a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. She played club basketball and was a Demon Deacon sports fan.
Janey’s passing is a loss for the entire Wake Forest community. May family and friends find comfort and support as they grieve Janey’s passing.
The University will share information on services for Janey when that information is available. Davis Chapel will be open this evening (April 9) beginning at 8 p.m. and Benson 401 will be open tomorrow (April 10) at 5:30 p.m. for students, faculty and staff to gather, remember Janey and support one another. Chaplains and counselors will be present.
Each of us is affected by loss in different ways, and there is no right way to grieve. We encourage you to take care of yourselves and your fellow Deacs during this difficult time. In moments like this, our close-knit community becomes even more important.
Wake Forest offers support and counseling services for all students, faculty and staff. Members of our community can call 336-758-CARE to connect to resources. A list of additional resources is available at we.wfu.edu. For faculty and staff, there is also the Employee Assistance Program at 336-716-5493. Please do not hesitate to seek support.
Sincerely,
Susan R. Wente
President
