Wake Forest appoints interim registrar

Provost Michele Gillespie has appointed veteran academic administrator Polly Winfrey Griffin to the role of interim university registrar beginning August 1.  She will replace Ken Gilson who has served as University Registrar since 2020 and is stepping down on July 1.

Griffin, who most recently served for sixteen years as the registrar of Princeton University, brings nearly 40 years of experience working in academic administration and leading registrars’ offices at Princeton, Dartmouth, Davidson College, and Wingate College.

“We are delighted that Polly will be joining us in this vital role,” said Provost Michele Gillespie. “She is a strategic and collaborative leader with a critical understanding of the role a University Registrar’s office fulfills in maintaining the integrity of students’ academic records and providing support and guidance in pursuit of our academic mission.”

In her role as the University’s interim registrar, Griffin will direct student registration, grade processing, transfer credit, degree audit, collaborate on the coordination of academic ceremonies, and consult on strategic academic planning. In coordination with Associate Provost for Academic Affairs Anne Hardcastle, she will also work closely with the Wakeday project teams to support implementation of the new Student Information System.

During the intervening period between Gilson’s departure on July 1 and Griffin’s arrival on August 1, Associate Provost Anne Hardcastle will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Office of the Registrar. Any related questions or concerns that arise during July should be directed to her at hardcaae@wfu.edu or to registrar@wfu.edu .
