In mid-May, demolition will begin on unoccupied buildings on Baity Street and Deacon Boulevard. This project will not impact Wake Forest’s nanotechnology building or The Last Resort bar.

Piedmont Natural Gas will begin disconnecting utilities at impacted buildings around the second week of May. After all utility work has been completed, construction crews will begin demolition: buildings will be razed to their foundation, and the lots will be backfilled with gravel. Once completed, those lots will be able to be used for event parking.

John Shenette, Vice President of Facilities and Campus Services, said: “As the University is not using these buildings, it was determined that we should take them down so the empty buildings do not become a safety and security hazard. This approach also allows us to pick up space for event parking.”

Baity Street and Deacon Boulevard will still be accessible during this project, as most work will take place in individual lots. There will be initial periods of demolition noise, as well as the potential for noise associated with the installation of the gravel. Weather permitting, the project is slated to run through the end of June.
