Interdisciplinary math class students to showcase projects at WakerSpace

Waker SpaceTwenty-two students in professor Sarah Raynor’s Explorations in Mathematics class will be showcasing their final project results on Wednesday, April 26 from 12:30 – 1:45 p.m. in WakerSpace.

NSF Early Career Award winner and Professor of Engineering Erin Henslee, who runs an Inclusive Making cohort, is using funds from the grant to support this educational outreach experience.

“Scientific discoveries should be made accessible to those in our communities. This includes mentoring undergraduate research students, using research as a catalyst to engage students in the classroom with new areas of science, as well as engaging the community with research,” Henslee said when Inside WFU announced the NSF award in April 2022.

“My students have chosen a topic in which they are interested, delved into the math of their topics and are using WakerSpace technologies to illustrate and support their learning. Some of the chosen topics include sports ranking, star formation, baking and theater set design,” Raynor said.

Guests will be able to talk with Raynor’s students about the final projects and their experiences in her interdisciplinary, project-based math class.
