On April 15, Wake Forest University’s Latinx Mentoring Initiative, associated with Latin American and Latino Studies, hosted a campus visit for Northwest Middle School students.

Students associated with the Latinx Mentoring Initiative and Associate Professor of Politics and International Affairs Betina Wilkinson’s Latinx politics course hosted 18 students for a biannual campus visit.

The visit included a campus tour, a career development workshop led by sophomore health and exercise science major and former Northwest student Brithany Teran-Boza, a presentation by admissions counselor Ikira Terrell, a soccer game and lunch at the Pit.

Wilkinson and Professor of Politics and International Affairs Peter Siavelis direct the initiative. Associate Professor Ana MarĂa Gonzalez Wahl is the director of Latin American and Latino Studies.

Assistant Professor of Sociology Andrea Gomez-Cervantes assisted with the campus visit. Along with Wilkinson and Siavelis, Ms. Sarah Hanusic, a multilingual learner teacher at Northwest Middle School helped organize the event.
